Bronax #11-- Hamlet's "To Be or Not To Be" speech

Ham. To be, or not to be: that is the ques-
tion:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and, by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the
rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may
come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of
time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's con-
tumely,
The pangs of disprized love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
ls sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.

#9 Bronax (4 Sept 2004, 21 Nov 2004)-- Direct Experience

Sept. 4, 2004

John-What attracts you to Buddha, etc. I like that stuff too-- and does produce some serenity, doesn't it. I'm impressed that you pursuit the eastern principles!

Bronax-Didn't get much from Roman Catholic church, Protestant church, four square Chistian churches, Unitarian church. Not much though in them, just resignation to mind manners to feel protected as child by big daddy in the sky. I like process of actually admitting one's direct experience with life and inner parts of one's self. I like the idea of lack of mandatory-ianous. I don't react easily to commands.

Remember the John Gray books. Will help you with wife and daughter, and women you work with in School, or counsel. They react and communicate differently than males.

Subject: George: hope your Sunday went well

George,

I liked the grandma on the beach joke!

Just spoke to my brother and he said you were getting together this evening. Hope that was a good event. I'm sure he values his time with you-- you're a bright insightful guy-- and a loyal friend. Maybe you got out and about in the neighborhood?

See-you,
John

“We went to Staples and he walked about looking at the office equipment, surprised of how much and varied it all was. I get the feeling that he is not a worldcleas shopper as I am. He finally decided on box of no. 2 pencils, and electric pencil sharpener and one book, and one box of Xmass cards. Didn't have heart to tell him all this would have been so much cheaper at my hangout, 99cents Only stores. But, so far, he has plenty of money. I filled him about life alone on Social Security and my failing law business, etc.

He got real serious about that.”

I'm going to just say hello and get back to my Sunday evening-- the end of the weekend. Thanksgiving is soon and this week will be low key.

“Waiting for your brother to come I watched series of tearjerker movies, wnding with Sean Penn called I Am Sam, about low functioning adult who has normal little girl. His fight to keep her witih social services agencies , police, foster parents, etc. Heartbreaking. Message, it isn't intellectual gifts that make the true parent: its the constant love and attention and consistency, and willingness to be there at any time, any place, always, for needs of the child. Good message and very true. It is the heart of every successful therapy experience.

If patient and treater form a human bond of respect and attention and love for one another, this will bode for successful outcome, no matter who the therapist is, his theoretic basis, etc. Its the experience of an unconditional human relationship that makes healing and growth possible. The lack of this causes people to seek therapy.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

PS--

 Give your young lawyer lady daughter a hug. She always needs to cuddle in the arms of her Dad, no matter what her age, no matter what his age. Its livelong acknowledgement of first time they perceived each other. Never forgotten. Holding your little daughter in your arms as a just born infant just begins it for life.”

Nov. 22, 2004: Bronax Email after Visit with my Brother

“I am pushing the idea, not quite apropos to you yet, that those with dead parents are really their own extended family. Your brother and I shook on it, as he was polishing down his piece of cornbread, honey, and butter, at Crest House Restaurant, family hang out near me. Welcome aboard this venture yourself.”

George B
Serenity knocks, but softly. Have an interesting day.
